COLUMBIA, S.C. (Tuesday, October 4, 2022) The South Carolina Citizens for Life office has received many questions about what is the next step with the Human Life Protection Act (H.5399). Here is what we know as of today.
Pro-Life Senator Thomas Alexander,
R-Oconee, who is the president of the South Carolina Senate, has called the Senate back into session on October 18, 2022, to take further action on the Human Life Protection Act.
Calling the senators back into session is the first crucial step to moving forward with the Human Life Protection Act (H.5399) that protects the
lives of the unborn members of our human family at all stages of development, protects the lives of pregnant women, and allows an exception for rape and incest.
Please contact Senator Alexander and thank him for giving the pro-life majority of the senators a path forward to protecting unborn children and their mothers.
Senator Alexander’s office number is (803) 212-6220 and his address is 213 Gressette Building, Columbia, S.C. 29201. A courteous call or note expressing gratitude is always welcome.
On September 8, 2022, the pro-life majority of our senators were thwarted by a small minority from voting to pass a strong version of the Human
Life Protection Act. The senators were able to pass a much weaker version of the bill and send it back to the House. The House decided not to accept the weaker version and sent H.5399 back to the Senate for further consideration. That is what the Senators are scheduled to do on October 18. Meeting again gives the pro-life majority of 24 Senators another opportunity to vote for H.5399 without the roadblock of a filibuster.
