Sgt. John Wayne Cockfield, USMC-Ret., was also re-elected to serve another 2-year term in three positions with the National Right to Life Committee. They are: Treasurer, Vice President for Medical Ethics, and At-Large Director. He will sit on the Executive Committee along with
Gatling. "I am happy to be once again re-elected as Vice President for Medical Ethics," Cockfield said. "Euthanasia and abortion are joined at the hip, and we will never get rid of one form of killing without outlawing the other."
"The fight continues," Cockfield continued. "The overturning of Roe
a year ago was only a preliminary victory that allows us to, as individual states, to pass life-protecting laws. It is not an end; it is a beginning." Cockfield reflected on his 40-years in the pro-life movement stating he has been, "praying, struggling, for the overturning of Roe v. Wade." Despite ongoing pressure from pro-abortion promoters, Cockfield said that he "never gave up on life". "How do you stop trying to save lives? How do you ignore what’s in front of you and ignore innocent children? That is the whole motivation for me and pro-lifers in general." Since 1996, Cockfield has worked with National Right to Life to promote public awareness on the present and growing threat of euthanasia.
Lisa Van Riper, President of South Carolina Citizens for Life, offered her congratulations on the re-elections of Gatling and Cockfield. "They have provided invaluable leadership to our state (South Carolina Citizens for Life) board and will continue to provide this same excellent leadership to our national board as we continue our work to protect the lives of unborn children
and the medically fragile," Van Riper said.
