Dear ,
South Carolina legislators have taken an
important step toward protecting women and unborn children, but they need to hear from you now.
Last week, by a 3–2 party-line vote, the S.C. House Constitutional Laws Subcommittee has advanced H. 4760, legislation to regulate abortion-inducing drugs, to the full House Judiciary Committee.
H. 4760 would strengthen South Carolina law by classifying abortion-inducing drugs as scheduled drugs and by establishing criminal and civil penalties for unlawfully mailing, dispensing, or providing these dangerous drugs to pregnant women. Mail-order abortion drugs currently allow abortionists to bypass South Carolina’s commonsense, life-protecting laws — including informed consent,
an in-person medical exam, an ultrasound, and information about alternatives to abortion.
During nearly two hours of testimony, South Carolina Citizens for Life President Lisa Van Riper emphasized that H. 4760 protects a woman’s right to accurate information, real medical
oversight, and care from a doctor licensed to practice in South Carolina. SCCL also submitted written testimony from pro-life doctors, nurses, counselors, and moral educators in support of the bill.
Those testifying in favor included former State Representative Garry
Smith; Dr. Tony Beam, Director of Church and Community Engagement at North Greenville University and Public Policy Director of the S.C. Southern Baptist Convention; and Dr. Steve Pettit, President of Palmetto Family. Opposition testimony came from staff of Planned Parenthood, which operates abortion facilities in Charleston and Columbia.
This hearing came the same day as a U.S. Senate hearing exposing how the Biden administration’s expansion of mail-order chemical abortion drugs is endangering women and undermining state laws.
As Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life (of which SCCL is the state affiliate), stated:
“Mail-order abortion is not health care. It is a reckless expedient that puts women at risk and leaves families to deal with the consequences.”
H. 4760 is expected to be heard by the full House Judiciary Committee , Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.

South Carolina must stop dangerous mail-order abortion drugs from entering our state and ensure women receive real medical care—not pills sent through the mail.
Thank you for standing for life and for women.
