COLUMBIA, S.C. (Wednesday, March 27, 2019) -- In a landslide victory, Dwight Loftis, long-time pro-life member of the SC House of Representatives, won Tuesday's special election to the SC Senate for District six.
Endorsed by LIFEPAC, he will fill the Senate seat left vacant when former State Senator William Timmons was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Loftis, who served in the SC. House for 23 years from District 19 (Greenville), told the Greenville News he was "extremely pleased" with the "solid win" over his opponent, Tina Belge, a Democratic Party activist. Mr. Loftis won the election with 56 percent of the vote, the Greenville News reported.
"The people of Senate District 6 chose a stalwart defender of innocent human life," said Lisa Van Riper, president of South Carolina Citizens for Life and its state political action committee LIFEPAC. Loftis "has an impeccable pro-life record for the 23 years he served in the South Carolina House. We look forward to working with Senator Loftis as soon as the votes are certified."
Mrs. Van Riper also pledged to work hard to keep the now-vacant House District 19 in pro-life command.
