WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representatives Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.), Jim Banks (R-Ind.), and an additional 65 House Republican members called upon U.S. Attorney General William Barr and the U.S. Department of Justice to provide assistance to the Illinois and Indiana investigators looking into the discovery of 2,246 preserved fetal remains found on the Illinois property of deceased Indiana abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer.

 

“We thank Representative Jackie Walorski and Representative Jim Banks for recognizing the need for additional resources and action in investigating the preserved remains of 2,246 aborted babies,” stated Jennifer Popik, legislative director for National Right to Life. “The American people want to know why these children were callously stored and disregarded in boxes for nearly 20 years.”

 

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Barr, U.S. House Republican members asked the Department of Justice to determine if any federal laws were broken and also requested, “the Department’s review of state laws regarding the disposition of human fetal remains. State laws vary with regard to the dignified treatment of human fetal remains, presenting challenges when such remains are transported across state lines.”

 

Americans were shocked to discover that, after an abortion, the remains of an unborn child are often treated like common medical waste to be either be flushed, incinerated, or placed in the trash. Why Ulrich Klopfer stored the remains is unknown but, according to markings, they were from abortions performed in Indiana in the years 2000 up through 2002.

 

“The victims include not only the aborted babies but also the mothers of the children forgotten in a garage in Illinois,” stated Popik. “We hope that making federal resources available will provide some answers for the mothers of these aborted babies.”
