Statement of National Right to Life Regarding the Judgment Against the Center for Medical Progress and its Co-defendants:

WASHINGTON--Today, a jury awarded a judgment to Planned Parenthood in the “Baby Body Parts” trial of David Daleiden, his co-defendants, and the organization he heads, The Center for Medical Progress. The jury awarded the verdict based on whether the defendants caused harm to the abortion giant.

Today’s judgment for punitive damages of $870,000 against David Daleiden and his co-defendants is chilling for anyone acting in good faith to reveal what they feel is criminal activity or behavior. This judgment is a miscarriage of justice and threatens first amendment rights and investigative journalism.

The intent of this judgment seems more than anything to be a heavy-handed attempt to silence anyone who might question or expose the activities of the abortion behemoth Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood has profited extensively from its role as the nation’s single largest abortion provider—the Goliath of an organization reported assets totaling nearly $1.9 billion in its 2017-2018 annual report.
