SCCL and National Right to Life Join Press Conference for Pro-Life Senator Lindsey Graham
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina Citizens for Life and the National Right to Life Committee joined a press conference Tuesday at the Carolina Pregnancy Center in Spartanburg, S.C., to promote the strongly pro-life record of U.S Senator Lindsey Graham. Senator Graham faces opposition from abortion extremist Democrat Jaime Harrison in the November 3, 2020, General Election.
Lisa Van Riper, SCCL president of Greenville, S.C. represented South Carolina Citizens for Life, the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.
Wayne Cockfield, USMC (Ret.) of Florence, S.C., and NRLC Vice President for Medical Ethics, along with Holly Gatling, NRLC Secretary, represented the National Right to Life Committee. Ms. Gatling also is the SCCL Executive Director.
"The purpose of the press conference is to promote Senator Graham's outstanding pro-life voting record and his unwavering support for the unborn members of our human family," Mrs. Van Riper said. "On the
other hand, Jaime Harrison, the Democrat opponent, is an extremist on abortion including tax-payer funding for abortion on demand for any reason." She continued, "Mr. Harrison opposed the South Carolina Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who can feel excruciating pain. Jaime Harrison is wrong on abortion and that makes him wrong for South Carolina."
Senator Graham said, “I’m on the right side of the issue. I have been consistent.” The Senator talked about his sponsorship of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act that makes killing an unborn
baby during a crime a separate crime from the crime committed against the mother. The South Carolina General Assembly passed a companion bill to make the unborn child a separate victim of violence against the mother. The Senator further said Harrison’s support of late-term abortion, including dismemberment abortion, “defines the race”. When asked by a reporter how important the SCCL PAC is to him, Senator Graham said, “When you’re in a pro-life state, it helps to have the
endorsement of pro-life people.” Senator Graham called the pro-life issue “championing a cause worth everything. I will be on your side because you are on the right side.”
Mr. Cockfield said, “Abortion is the defining issue of our time and Senator Graham is our go-to senator.”
Alexia Newman, director of the Carolina Pregnancy Care Center, also a board member of South Carolina Citizens for Life hosted the
event including tours of the pregnancy care facility.
