President Trump Accepts the Nomination of the Republican Party,
National Right to Life Describes Him as “A Leader on the Right to Life”
WASHINGTON — Tonight, President Donald J. Trump formally accepted the nomination of his party to be the Republican Party’s nominee for President. President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have the support of millions of pro-life Americans because the Trump Administration has worked diligently and consistently to protect and defend the unborn child, the elderly, the medically infirm, and people
with disabilities.
“President Trump has proved time and again to be a leader on the right to life,” said Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee. “From protecting the unborn child to people with disabilities, he has shown compassion for the most vulnerable among us.”
President Trump pledged to “veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life federal policies and laws, or that encourages the destruction of innocent human life at any stage.” The Trump Administration has followed through on that pledge and has successfully restored, expanded, or implemented a number of pro-life policies. Since the beginning of the Trump Administration in 2017, the Administration has:
Restored the Mexico City Policy, which prevents tax funds from being given to organizations that perform abortions or lobby to change abortion laws of host countries.
Expanded the Mexico City Policy into the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance (PLGHA) policy. The PLGHA prevents $9 billion in foreign aid from funding the global abortion industry.
Cut off funds to the United Nations Population Fund because of that agency’s involvement with China’s forced abortion program.
Supported the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This legislation would protect unborn children who are at least 20 weeks old. By this point in her development (and probably earlier), she has the capacity to experience excruciating pain during typical abortion procedures.
Issued regulations known as the Protect Life Rule. The rule requires recipients of Title X family planning money not to co-locate with abortion clinics or refer clients for abortion as a method of family planning. The rule does not cut funding for family planning but ensures that funding goes to health facilities that do not perform or promote abortion as family planning.
Supported the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. President Trump said he “would sign the bill.” The bill would permanently prohibit any federal program from funding elective abortion.
Supported the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act which would extend federal legal protection to babies who are born alive during an abortion.
Finalized new regulations to strengthen enforcement of federal laws protecting the conscience rights of health care workers who do not want to participate in abortion.
Directed funding away from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.
Signed a joint statement along with a total of twenty-four countries, representing more than one billion people, coalescing on the principle that there is no international right to abortion.
Issued a bulletin directing covered entities to follow the law to ensure that civil rights are not violated in the treatment of those diagnosed with COVID-19.
“Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris support extreme pro-abortion policies that would impact women and their unborn children all across the United States and around the world,” said Tobias. “The right to life is the most fundamental right but, to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, it’s an anathema, and they would do everything in
their power to turn back the clock on the pro-life policies of the Trump Administration.”
