COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 13, 2021) The South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act (or Heartbeat Bill for short) has the prominent bill number S.1. It will be heard Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 10 a.m. in a Medical Affairs Subcommittee during the first week of
the General Assembly.
The Heartbeat Bill will prohibit abortion in most cases when the baby’s heartbeat can be detected. The hearing will be livestreamed at www.scstatehouse.gov or by clicking HERE. We encourage everyone who is able to watch the subcommittee hearing.
Members of the five member subcommittee are Chairman Senator Tom Davis, R-Beaufort, Senator Tom Corbin, R- Greenville, and Senator Richard Cash, R-Anderson; and Democrats Marlon Kimpson of Charleston, and Margie Bright Matthews of Colleton.
The process for moving the Heartbeat bill forward is first to pass the Medical Affairs Subcommittee and move to the full Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee. Once the bill passes the full committee, it moves to the Senate calendar where it is voted on by the full
Senate.
It is not too early to call your state senator and urge him or her to support S. 1, the Heartbeat Bill.
You can find your State Senator (there are 46 state senators) and contact information HERE.
You can find all members of the Senate Medical Affairs Committee HERE.
Once you have contacted your State Senator please email the South Carolina Citizens for Life office and tell us how your Senator says he or she will vote on S. 1, the Heartbeat Bill.
In advance, thank you for you attention to this ACTION ALERT. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
