COLUMBIA, SC (Monday, February 1, 2021) The SC House Judiciary Committee will begin hearings Wednesday afternoon on the Fetal Heartbeat Bill (S1) that passed the
Senate last week by a vote of 30-13. It is now time to make contact with your House of Representatives member.
The Constitutional Laws Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee will meet at 2:30 Wednesday in Room 110 of the Blatt Building. As with the Senate hearings, the room is open to the public on a limited basis and testimony can be taken virtually.
“This bill is a historic opportunity to save lives in South Carolina,” said South Carolina Citizens for Life President Lisa Van Riper. “Be part of this historic opportunity by calling your SC House member today!”
We expect virulent opposition to our position which is to pass S1 with no changes so that it will go straight to Governor McMaster for his signature. Any changes to the Senate bill jeopardize its
passage.
The Fetal Heartbeat Bill protects the pregnant woman’s right to know her baby has a heartbeat and gives her the right to hear the heartbeat. The bill also protects an unborn child from abortion
once the heartbeat is detected.
One of the tricks opponents of the bill try to play is to offer an amendment banning all abortions in South Carolina and daring pro-life legislators not to vote for it. That is what militant pro-abortion Senator Brad Hutt, D-Orangeburg, did in the State Senate by offering an amendment to S1. He then voted against his own phony amendment.

Begin calling now and asking your House member to support S1, the Fetal Heartbeat Bill with no House amendments. Remind your Representative that amendments are phony and nothing but
a ruse to kill the Fetal Heartbeat Bill.
