WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, shortly before midnight, in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the Texas law, SB8, to go into effect. The Texas law is designed to protect unborn children whose
hearts have begun to beat.
“Hopefully, this law will begin saving the lives of tens of thousands of Texas babies and we look forward to the day that babies’ lives will be spared across America,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life (NRLC).
The U.S. Supreme Court majority said that the case raised “complex and novel” questions about legal procedure and their decision not to block implementation of the law allows the lower courts to examine the unique legal questions presented by this case. The High Court’s decision is consistent with proper legal procedures involving issues presented to them.
